According to a source, the singer - who has yet to make a statement on their divorce - has been busy scribbling lyrics about the breakdown of her relationship with the comedian.
"Ever since problems started to emerge, she penned her thoughts in a diary which she goes back to draw upon lyrics for her songs," the insider said.
"She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary," they added.
The star is said to have written lyrics for two new tracks while she was in Hawaii over Christmas, when whispers of the break-up first began to emerge.
This isn't the first time Katy has poured her heart into her lyrics, as the track Circle The Drain is thought to be about her about her break-up with Gym Class Heroes' star Travie McCoy.
Katy is set to put on a brave face for her first public appearance since Brand announced that their marriage was over by attending the People's Choice Awards on 11 January 2012.
